245/75R16 Tires

What 245/75R16 means

The 245/75R16 marking is three measurements: 245 is the tread width in millimetres, 75 is the aspect ratio — the sidewall height as a percentage of that width — and 16″ is the wheel rim it mounts on.

The numbers for this size

These follow from the size itself: sidewall is 245 × 75%, and the overall diameter is the 16″ rim plus that sidewall twice over. The revolutions figure is what your speedometer is calibrated against — fit a size with a noticeably different diameter and the reading drifts.

How 245/75R16 drives

This is a tall-sidewall fitment. There is a good depth of rubber between the road and the rim, so it rides softly and survives potholes far better than a low-profile — the trade-off is slightly softer turn-in.

At 245 mm this is a wide tyre: more contact patch means more dry grip and shorter stopping distances, at the cost of a little fuel economy and a tendency to follow ruts in worn pavement.
